Life Wins
The pro-life movement has unprecedented momentum, and we must wield it effectively.
President Donald Trump will return to the White House as the 47th President of the United States, in a historic comeback election that many are calling a landslide.
Earlier this year, Pro Life Journal endorsed President Trump for re-election. We laid out our case for why electing Trump, whose presidency led to the miraculous overturning of Roe v. Wade, would be the best pathway for protecting life.
Now, our sights are set on the horizon. We cannot spend a single day complacent, because the most innocent of lives are on the line.
The Post-Roe Playbook
It is impossible to understate the significance of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision. Overturning Roe has not only saved millions of lives — It reaffirmed that the right to life should never be subordinated to political convenience. President Trump played a crucial role by appointing three constitutionalist Supreme Court Justices—Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett—who respected the sanctity of life and exercised an accurate interpretation of constitutional law. Their landmark decision took place when it was not necessarily politically convenient but made it clear that protecting the most vulnerable in our society is our top priority. Now, we are entering a new era and energy for the pro-life movement.
However, the overturning of Roe was never an end goal. Its reversal created a more focused movement that demands specific protections for life across the nation. With Trump back in office, the pro-life movement has unprecedented momentum, and we must wield it effectively. Now, we need to push beyond the courts and pursue legislation that will protect life from conception at both state and federal levels.
While many states have already passed strong pro-life laws, we cannot allow our country to remain a patchwork of protection for the unborn. Trump’s next presidency offers a unique opportunity to work toward federal pro-life legislation that affirms life at the moment of conception. Just as we fight every day to protect unborn children at the state level, we must now turn our attention to Washington. The sanctity of life totally transcends state lines.
With a Republican-controlled Congress, there is no reason why we cannot go further and pass a Life at Conception Act, which would protect the unborn once and for all. Trump’s leadership could make this a reality.
A New, Pronatalist Approach
Conservative states that have already accomplished strong pro-life laws must now move towards aggressively pronatalist legislation, showing that protecting life can go hand in hand with strong economic incentives, healthcare, and messaging.
These states should expand resources for women in crisis pregnancies, including support for adoption, foster care, and maternal health services. With Trump’s influence, we can push other states to follow suit and create a culture that values life in every corner of the nation.
Another major benefit of Trump’s return to power will be the opportunity to continue reshaping the judiciary. While his first term saw the appointment of over 200 federal judges, many of whom are dedicated to upholding constitutional principles, the work is far from finished. By appointing more pro-life judges to the federal bench, Trump can ensure that pro-life laws stand strong against inevitable legal challenges from pro-abortion activists, and leave a pro-life legacy that will last for generations.
The next four years will be pivotal for the future of our movement. With Trump back in the Oval Office, we are entering a new 'golden era' of confidence and enthusiasm, poised to take us to new heights.
