Louisiana Governor Signs Legislation Classifying Abortion Pills as Controlled Substances
The bill passed the state House on the 21st and the state Senate on the 23rd, which is over 70% Republican.
Jeff Landry, the Governor of Louisiana, signed a bill into law on May 24th classifying abortion pills as controlled substances. The new measure makes possession of abortion pills without prescription a criminal offense. This puts the abortion pill regimen, mifepristone and misoprostol, in the same category as other possibly harmful drugs considered to have the potential to be abused or otherwise addictive. The lethal combination of mifepristone and misoprostol first starves the unborn baby to death inside the mother's womb by blocking the child's access to the growth hormone progesterone and then triggers delivery of the deceased child. This horrible practice has killed over 5.6 million preborn babies since the FDA first approved the drug and is by far the most common method of abortion in the United States today.
The bill, named the "Catherine and Josephine Herring Act," and created by State Senator Thomas Pressly, overwhelmingly passed the state House on the 21st and the state Senate on the 23rd, which is over 70% Republican. Posting a statement on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Governor Landry says that "Requiring an abortion inducing drug to be obtained with a prescription and criminalizing the use of an abortion drug on an unsuspecting mother is nothing short of common sense," additionally asserting that this bill protects women across Louisiana as well as the unborn. The proposal previously drew outrage from many pro-abortion radicals, such as U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris calls the bill "absolutely unconscionable" and blames 45th President Donald Trump for the measure's passage. After further research, we were able to conclude that State Senator Thomas Pressly wrote the bill, not President Trump. Governor Jeff Landry clapped back on X, proudly exclaiming, "You know you're doing something right when @KamalaHarris criticizes you," and explaining that "This bill protects expectant mothers while also allowing these drugs to be prescribed to those with a valid prescription." The Governor pressed further, adding, "Maybe Vice President Harris should spend more time fixing our southern border than misleading the American people on Senator @TAPressly's bill." Kamala Harris did not reply further.
The bill will go into effect October 1st, making Louisiana the first state in the U.S. to categorize the deadly combination of mifepristone and misoprostol in this way, protecting countless preborn babies and restoring their inherent and God-given right to life.
