Texas Supreme Court Upholds Law Protecting Babies
Pro-abortion radicals wanted to allow the abortion of children with disabilities or other critical health conditions
The Supreme Court of Texas on May 31st upheld the state’s law outlawing nearly all abortions in the state, unanimously rejecting a lawsuit from a radical pro-abortion group. The deceptively named “Center for Reproductive Rights” filed a lawsuit last year on behalf of multiple Texas women seeking to add loopholes to the pro-life policies in Texas. In a 9-0 ruling, the Texas Supreme Court asserted that “The history of abortion regulation in Texas demonstrates the Legislature’s unmistakable commitment to protecting the lives of pregnant women experiencing life-threatening complications while also valuing and protecting unborn life,” successfully upholding the constitutionality of the sacred law by vacating a previous district court injunction and protecting countless lives from rabid pro-abortion activists. All nine Texas Supreme Court judges are Republicans.
The radical anti-life lawsuit sought to replace the objective definition in the current law with vague and unclear language that could be interpreted subjectively. Through this case, known as State of Texas vs Zurawski, pro-abortion radicals attempted to use extremely rare situations in which the life of the mother is at risk to allow for murdering unborn children with disabilities or other critical health conditions. Luckily, the Texas Supreme Court correctly recognized that disabilities or life-limiting illnesses should not be a death sentence for children, smacking down the attempt by radical activists.
Pro-Life Texans, as well as countless preborn Texan babies, largely have Attorney General Ken Paxton to thank for this fantastic victory for life. When this challenge was brought against the law last year, an injunction was issued by a district court to prevent enforcement of the law. Luckily, Attorney General Paxton appealed the decision directly to the state’s Supreme Court. “Today, the Supreme Court of Texas unanimously upheld the Human Life Protection Act, one of our state’s pro-life laws,” said Attorney General Paxton, adding, “I will continue to defend the laws enacted by the Legislature and uphold the values of the people of Texas by doing everything in my power to protect mothers and babies.”
